Emmure began in 2003 when the hardcore/metal scene was in its infancy. Frankie Palmeri stands as the sole remaining original member of the band. Through their ups and downs it has become clear that he is the man with the vision for the bands artistic and musical direction. Emmure’s reputation was built on his shoulders, and the band unfortunately has suffered from severe lineup instability throughout their tenure. In my eyes it is impossible to pigeonhole the band into a specific genre because it is clear he has a wide array of vocal and musical influences. Yes I have been on the train since their first EP and am aware of critics who accuse them of taking song ideas from the Acacia strain and that may have been true early in their career but I truly believe that over time the band has learned to stand on their own eventually creating their own genre with their music.
Emmure has become one of the mainstays of the genre due to being tempered and crafted over time. Having to deal with a full band exit leaving Frankie Palmeri as the sole remaining member it is incredible that the band still exists after 2015. Bringing Josh Travis into the fold (Ex Glass Cloud and Tony Danza) was a smart move by Frank because I truly believe over his time in the band he brought something unique and special to the songwriting process. I had the privilege of meeting Frank randomly at a pizza place before a show in Worcester MA in 2025. He has been through a great deal of trouble throughout his career and I was grateful to see in his eyes someone who was humble and truly appreciated his fans. He could see in my eyes how much not only his music but the entire heavy music scene meant to me. I told him I had been a fan since their first EP the complete guide to needlework. He smiled and we snapped a picture together.
I am glad to have seen them live twice, soon to be three times, they are still firing on all cylinders as evidenced by their energetic, charismatic live show. It truly is my hope that there is a follow up to the 2020 album hindsight coming soon. Frank’s personality and attitude toward the music he creates along with his fans is truly something special and demonstrates the true reason why Emmure has become a mainstay in the genre.
