Hidden Gem Musician

Shane Ochsner

Chapters and Verses, Hands, Everything In Slow Motion

I first started following Shane’s music career around 2009 with his band Hands. I relatively quickly started looking for other projects he was involved in and found some guest spots with the band Your Memorial and his previous project that lasted from 2004-2007 called Chapters and Verses. What makes his music stand out among others in the genre is the raw authenticity and passion behind every word and note. Shane has the unique ability to convey his emotions through his music that spans from the most joyous melodies to brutal vocal lines that find the power to be harmonious at the same time.

Shane does not hold anything back during his writing sessions and it’s the raw honesty in his words and riffs that make the music stand out from the pack. There is no genre here because it is truly the season he is experiencing in life that assists him with painting a picture with each song. After the disbanding of his main project Hands, it was very clear that he was not ready to call it quits with creating. Everything in Slow Motion was born shortly after which appears to truly be the new catharsis for what he is feeling in this season of his life. Though there are dark moments with this new project notably the Red EP and Phoenix which deal with very emotional, raw and dark subject matter. What I believe Phoenix to be about is a man’s Journey from addiction to sobriety to relapse and finally redemption in the track Proxima. This record truly is a benchmark in songwriting due to its raw honesty. This is not for the faint of heart as it deals with topics that are dark and fighting back against one’s inner demons is no small feat.

Though his next efforts are lighter there is still a hidden darkness present in songs like Apollo from his most recent record influence. Though Everything in Slow motion has been relatively quiet since their 2020 release I do believe there are small rumblings beneath the surface, and a new record could be in the works. What truly makes Shane stand out beyond his music is his authentic, kind nature as a human being. Music truly brings people together and his has reached a level of self-actualization that is beyond phenomenal.

He truly is a wolf among the sheep and is showing no signs of slowing down. Everything in Slow Motion may be gearing up for something big over the next few years and the devoted fan base is waiting with bated breath for what is next for Shane and the band.
