Album Review: The Story So Far

I Want to Disappear

Though I was extremely late to this party I am grateful that I showed up. Having discovered the band on what is considered by fans to be their worst record. It can’t be all that bad right? Considering that it got me into them. Some of their weakest songs I believe to be their strongest. Standouts like Solo, Mock and Nerve standout as some of their strongest work from this era. Having been a devoted fan since I have seen them live twice and I am going a third time in October 2025 with Neck Deep as support.

The frontman Parker Cannon truly has one of if not the best voice in all of popular music. I am encouraged to see the growth he has gone through as an artist and a writer. The death of his father from throat cancer in 2021 appears to have truly given him something to write about. That is cathartic and displayed growth in him as a person. This album displays the perfect balance of everything that has brought The Story So Far international acclaim. From touring with Blink 182 on their European tour and singing carousel from Buddha the first Blink album after hugging Tom DeLonge on stage it is clear that Parker has a great deal of respect for one of the founding fathers of pop punk.

It is clear that the story so far has digested all of the influences of those who have come before them and turned them into something truly special. Everything on this album stands out as a beacon of hope in the genre. Even the less celebrated tracks like letterman, white shores and I want to disappear the closer bring something unique to the table that help to push the bands sound forward and shine bright if given the time of day.

This is an album that I truly feel will be alive in the hearts and minds of fans for years to come. When I look back over the course of their career this album truly demonstrates that it has something worthwhile to say. Many of their earlier songs dealt with topics that appeared to be one dimensional, the typical relationship problems that many musicians in the pop punk genre write about. My only critique of this record is that I truly wish that it was longer. Clocking in at just over 28 minutes the joy I feel from this project is truly special for its brief run time.

It is evident to me that Parker and the boys were firing on all cylinders when writing the songs that comprise this wonderful body of work. I am truly happy with what came out during the writing and recording sessions. It is my hope that this only the beginning for The Story So Far and they will be around for years to come.
